The skimmer basket that replaces the Waterway 542-3240.
White Waterway-style pool skimmer basket with a handle. CMP lists it as the equivalent of the Waterway 542-3240 basket, the one used in Renegade in-ground skimmers. It catches leaves, insects and debris before they reach the pump.
Compare with your basket
Set your current basket on a table and measure the top (across the rim), the bottom and the height.
If your basket has the same measurements, or carries the number 542-3240, this is the one. A few millimetres off can keep it from sitting properly in the skimmer.

Replacing it
- Turn off the pump.
- Remove the skimmer lid and lift the old basket out by its handle.
- Clear any debris left at the bottom of the skimmer.
- Set the new basket flat in its seat, then put the lid back on.
- Restart the pump and check that the water flows normally.
Frequently asked questions
Will it fit my skimmer?
It replaces the Waterway 542-3240 basket, the one used in Renegade in-ground skimmers. Retailers disagree on which versions it covers (vinyl liner, fibreglass or concrete), so go by the measurements of your current basket, or send us a photo of your skimmer.
Is it an original Waterway part?
No. It is made by CMP, which lists it as the equivalent of the Waterway 542-3240.
When should the basket be replaced?
As soon as it is cracked, its handle is broken or it no longer sits flat: debris then gets through to the pump.
