The Moov Inverter MI1400 is a Full-Inverter pool heat pump from Quebec brand Moov, heating only, and the largest model in the Moov Inverter range. Its AHRI-certified capacity is 135,000 BTU/h with a COP of 5.7 (air and water at 26.7 °C, 80% humidity), and both its compressor and its fan adjust their speed to modulate output from 20 to 100% as needed. It has a top-mounted fan, 2 in. water connections and built-in Wi-Fi, runs on 208–230 V with a 50 A breaker, and its titanium heat exchanger is warranted for 10 years.
Highlights
Description
A pool heat pump captures the heat contained in the outdoor air and transfers it to the water through a heat exchanger: it delivers several times more heat than the electricity it consumes. This ratio is called the COP. For the Moov Inverter MI1400, it is 5.7 with air and water at 26.7 °C and 80% humidity, or about 5.7 kWh of heat for 1 kWh of electricity. Like all Moov Inverter models, it is Full-Inverter: its compressor and fan modulate their speed to adjust output to demand. Moov therefore claims 30 to 50% seasonal savings compared with a traditional heat pump.
AFI offers the range in four sizes: MI500, MI650X, MI900 and MI1400. The MI1400 is the most powerful, and its design differs from the other three. Those have a side-mounted fan that blows horizontally; the MI1400 has a top-mounted fan that discharges air upward, in an ABS and metal cabinet. It connects with 2 in. fittings instead of 1½ in., and requires a water flow of 133 to 254 L/min and a 50 A circuit at 208–230 V. It weighs 143 kg.
The “140,000 BTU” in the name is Moov's commercial designation, a maximum capacity advertised in 2023 and not certified. The capacity certified to the AHRI 1160 standard is 135,000 BTU/h under the reference conditions. With air at 10 °C (water at 26.7 °C, 63% humidity), closer to a Quebec spring or fall, it is 61,000 BTU/h. Day to day, the MI1400 is controlled from its keypad display or remotely with the Moov Pool app, in Smart mode (recommended for the first heat-up) or Silence mode.

Installation
| Who installs it | A pool professional. The manufacturer specifies that a homeowner is not qualified to install it and that the warranty is voided otherwise. |
|---|---|
| Electrical | Hardwired connection, no plug: no outlet, no smart plug (scheduling is done in the Moov Pool app). In Quebec, this work falls to a master electrician. Grounding required, 50 A breaker and fuse, 2 × 8 AWG cable plus ground up to 10 m. |
| Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) | The manufacturer does not require one for operation. If the code requires one, its trip threshold must be 30 mA or less; some GFCIs nuisance-trip with variable-speed equipment. Your electrician determines the required protection. |
| Location | Outdoors, in a well-ventilated spot, with enough room for servicing. Not under an eave, a deck or a porch: the discharged air recirculates, efficiency drops and the unit may shut down. |
| Clearances | 1 m (39.4 in.) clear above, on the air outlet side, and at least 0.5 m (20 in.) all around (walls, shrubs, equipment). |
| Mounting | M10 bolts on a solid concrete slab, or on a sturdy rust-proofed stand. |
| Position in the circuit | After the pump and filter, before the water treatment unit (chlorinator or salt chlorine generator). Water inlet at the bottom, outlet at the top. The manufacturer's diagram shows a three-valve bypass. |
| Plumbing | Rigid pipe required: the fittings cannot support the weight of flexible hose. No more than 10 m of pipe between the pool and the heat pump. Insulate the lines. |
| Water flow | 133 to 254 L/min (35.1 to 67.1 US gal/min) during heating. The filtration pump must provide it and offer a maximum head of at least 10 m. |
| Commissioning | Start the pump before the heat pump, and stop the heat pump before the pump. Use Smart mode for the first heat-up. |
The Moov warranty begins on the date of purchase, or on the date of installation if installation is delayed (with proof). It applies only to the first installation and requires installation by a professional. It excludes electrical wiring and a heat exchanger cracked by freezing.
Winterizing
As soon as the air drops below 3 °C, the manufacturer asks that you turn off the power and drain the heat exchanger, even though the operating range given in the manual starts at 0 °C. Water that freezes inside the unit can crack the titanium heat exchanger, and this damage is not covered by the warranty. Here is the procedure Moov recommends, once the pool circulation has been stopped:
| 1. Turn off the power | Switch off the heat pump's breaker (off position). |
|---|---|
| 2. Disconnect the water | Unscrew the water inlet and outlet fittings. |
| 3. Dry the heat exchanger | Vacuum the water out through the bottom line with a shop vacuum, or blow through the top line. |
| 4. Antifreeze (optional) | Using a funnel, pour antifreeze into the top line until it comes out of the bottom one. Plug the bottom line with an expansion plug, finish filling from the top, then plug the top line. AFI tip: use an antifreeze designed for pools, never automotive antifreeze. |
| 5. Cover | Put on a cover, leaving some room for air to circulate. |
For maintenance, clean the coil with household detergent or clean water, never with gasoline or thinner.

General overview of the Moov Inverter range by the manufacturer (video in French). The video does not show the built-in Wi-Fi of current models.
Installation and user manual (PDF, English and French)The French version of the manual reverses the MI1400 clearances: the correct instruction, from the English version, is 1 m clear above and 0.5 m all around. That edition also calls the app “Fairland”; use the Moov Pool app. If in doubt, call us.
