The Moov Inverter MI900 is a 90,000 BTU-class Full-Inverter pool heat pump from Moov, a Quebec brand. Its capacity is AHRI-certified at 82,000 BTU/h with a COP of 6.0 (air and water at 26.7 °C, 80% humidity), and its output adjusts from 20 to 100% instead of running all-or-nothing. According to Moov, its soft start lets it get by with a 30 A breaker at 208-230 V (hardwired, no plug). Moov rates it for pools of up to 105,000 litres.
Key features
Description
A heat pump doesn't produce heat, it moves it: its refrigerant circuit captures heat from the outdoor air and transfers it to the pool water in the heat exchanger. Electricity runs the compressor and the fan; it doesn't heat the water directly. COP measures this efficiency: with a COP of 6.0, the MI900 delivers about 6 kWh of heat to the water for every kWh of electricity consumed, under the reference conditions. Efficiency drops as the air gets cooler: at 10 °C (63% humidity, water at 26.7 °C), its certified capacity is 42,000 BTU/h, with a COP of 4.2.
The Moov Inverter line is built on Full-Inverter technology: a twin-rotor DC compressor (according to Moov) and a variable-speed fan, for output that adjusts from 20 to 100%. Moov claims seasonal savings of 30 to 50% compared with a conventional heat pump. Start-up is gradual: the fan starts one minute before the compressor and, according to Moov, the current reaches its rated value in two minutes. The MI900 heats only: it has no cooling mode.
AFI offers four sizes of Moov Inverter. The MI900 sits between the MI650X (65,000 BTU class, 62,000 BTU/h certified, up to 68,000 L according to Moov) and the MI1400 (140,000 BTU class, 135,000 BTU/h certified, up to 155,000 L according to Moov). The smallest, the MI500, is certified at 46,000 BTU/h, and Moov rates it for pools up to 52,000 L. Of the four, the MI900 is the most powerful side-fan model and the most powerful on a 30 A breaker: the MI1400, with a top-mounted fan, requires a 50 A breaker and 2 in. fittings.

Installation
| Who installs it | A pool professional. The manufacturer states that the user is not qualified to install it and that the warranty is otherwise void. |
|---|---|
| Electrical | Hardwired by a master electrician, with no plug or extension cord, and grounded. 30 A breaker (or 30 A fuses) to be provided, not included; 2 × 10 AWG + ground cable up to 10 m, heavier gauge beyond that. |
| Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) | Moov states that the unit does not need one to operate. If code requires one, its trip threshold must be 30 mA or less; some GFCIs nuisance-trip with variable-speed equipment. Your electrician will confirm what code requires. |
| Location | Outdoors, in a well-ventilated spot. Moov advises against installing it under an overhang, a deck or a porch: exhaust air can recirculate there and efficiency can drop, even to the point of shutdown. Secure it with M10 bolts on a solid concrete base or a sturdy rust-proofed stand. |
| Clearances | At least 1.5 m (59.1 in.) in front of the fan outlet, 0.7 m (27.6 in.) on each side, 0.5 m (19.7 in.) behind and above. |
| Position in the circuit | Pool, pump, filter, heat pump (water inlet at the bottom, outlet at the top), then water treatment (chlorinator, salt chlorine generator) and return to the pool. The manufacturer's diagram calls for a three-valve bypass. |
| Piping | Rigid pipe required: the union fittings cannot support the weight of flexible hose. No more than 10 m of pipe between the pool and the heat pump, with insulated lines. |
| Water flow | The pool pump must deliver 125 to 158 L/min (33.0 to 41.7 US gal/min) during heating, with a maximum head of at least 10 m. |
| Condensate | Insert the supplied fitting into the opening under the unit and connect a drain hose to it. |
| Commissioning | Start the pump before the heat pump, and stop the heat pump before the pump. Smart mode is recommended for the initial heat-up. |
The Moov warranty begins on the date of purchase (or on the installation date if installation is delayed, with proof) and applies only to the original installation. It does not cover electrical wiring or a unit that was not installed by a qualified technician.
Winterizing
The manufacturer requires cutting the power and draining the heat exchanger as soon as the ambient temperature drops below 3 °C. In Quebec, the heat pump is therefore winterized every fall, when the pool is closed. Here is the procedure published by Moov:
| 1. Cut the power | Once the pool water circulation has stopped, switch off the heat pump's breaker. |
|---|---|
| 2. Disconnect the piping | Unscrew the water inlet and outlet union fittings. |
| 3. Dry the heat exchanger | Vacuum the water out through the bottom fitting with a shop vacuum, or blow through the top fitting. |
| 4. Antifreeze (optional) | Pour the antifreeze through a funnel into the top fitting until it comes out of the bottom one. Plug the bottom fitting with an expansion plug, finish filling from the top, then plug the top fitting. AFI tip: use a non-toxic pool antifreeze, never automotive antifreeze. |
| 5. Cover | Put on a cover, leaving room for a little air to circulate. |
Water that freezes inside the unit can damage the titanium heat exchanger, and that damage is not covered by the warranty. For maintenance, clean the coil with household detergent or clean water, never with gasoline or thinner.
