Powdered stain remover based on ascorbic acid (vitamin C) that dissolves metal stains on pool and spa surfaces: iron, copper, and other metals. It is applied directly over the stain and followed by a sequestering agent to prevent stains from returning. 850 g format.

850 gFormat
Vitamin CAscorbic acid
Pool · spaSurfaces
1 ppmMaximum sanitizer

Lower chlorine or bromine to 1 ppm or less first. Beyond that, the sanitizer will destroy the ascorbic acid before it has time to act on the stain, and the product will be wasted.

This product removes stains; it does not prevent them from returning. The loosened metals remain in the water. Add a sequestering agent afterward to keep them in solution, otherwise they will redeposit.

Highlights

Iron and copper stainsDissolves metal deposits that leave brown, rust, green, or bluish stains.
Vitamin C basedNaturally derived and biodegradable ascorbic acid, an agent recognized for treating metal stains.
Pool or spaThe manufacturer intended this for use on both pool and spa surfaces.
All surfacesVinyl, fiberglass, concrete: it works without abrasives or hard scrubbing.
Targeted applicationIt is spread directly over stained areas rather than throughout the entire pool.

Identifying the stain

Brown, rust, or orange Iron. Common with well water.
Green, blue, or turquoise Copper. Often linked to a pH that is too low, which attacks copper components, or to certain algaecides.
Black, purplish, or mauve Manganese. Mainly found in well water.
White and rough This is not a metal stain; it is scale (calcium). This product is not the right one: contact us.

How to use

1. Lower the sanitizer Let the chlorine or bromine drop to 1 ppm or less, without adding more. Turn off the salt chlorinator and remove any tablet dispensers: the level must remain low until vacuuming. Test before beginning.
2. Spread the powder Sprinkle the product directly over the stained areas. The quantity depends on the extent of the stains: when in doubt, send us a photo.
3. Brush Brush the stained areas to help the powder act across the entire surface of the stain.
4. Vacuum after 24 h After 24 hours, vacuum the entire surface and clean the filter.
5. Sequestering agent, then rebalance Add a sequestering agent to keep the loosened metals in solution. Only then should you raise the sanitizer level and correct the pH.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do the stains come back?Because the metals are still in the water. The stain remover loosens them from the surface, but without a sequestering agent, they eventually redeposit. The label mentions Stain Prevent, the sequestering agent from the same line. For pools, Cop-Out from the same manufacturer contains the same sequestering agent (EDTA) and serves the same purpose: this is what we carry in-store. Use the dosage for heavy-duty water, 240 mL per 10,000 L.
Why lower the chlorine first?Chlorine and bromine destroy ascorbic acid. At more than 1 ppm, a good portion of the product is neutralized before it reaches the stain.
Where do the metals come from? Most often from the fill water (especially well water), or from a pH that is too low, which corrodes copper equipment components.
Does this throw off my water balance?Temporarily, yes: it is an acid, so it lowers the pH. Test the water after treatment and rebalance before swimming.
What about in a spa?The product is suitable for spa surfaces. For the sequestering agent to use afterward, contact us: Cop-Out is labeled for pools.
Does it work on white scale? No. White scale requires an anti-scale product, which is different. Send us a photo if you are not sure about the type of stain.
Not sure what type of stain it is? Send us a photo and, if possible, your water test results. We will tell you if it is a metal problem, scale, or something else, before you buy the wrong product. Contact us (418) 871-0658
